Frequently Asked Questions
Sublimation is a printing process where special dye-sublimation ink is heated and converted from a solid to a gas. The gas penetrates polyester fibers and bonds permanently at the molecular level. The result is a vibrant, full-color print that won’t crack, peel, or fade—because the ink IS the fabric.
Sublimation requires polyester or polyester-blend fabrics (65%+ polyester recommended). It also works on poly-coated hard surfaces like ceramic mugs, mouse pads, and sublimation-ready tumblers. Sublimation does NOT work on 100% cotton—use DTF transfers for cotton fabrics.
Sublimation ink is transparent—it dyes the fabric rather than sitting on top. On dark fabrics, the colors won’t show properly because there’s no white base to reflect light. For best results, use white or very light-colored polyester.
Temperature: 385-400°F (195-205°C). Time: 45-60 seconds. Pressure: Medium to Firm. Peel: Hot or Warm. Use butcher paper or Teflon sheet to prevent ghosting (double images from paper shifting).
Sublimation ink bonds WITH polyester fibers—it becomes part of the fabric with no hand feel. DTF transfers sit ON TOP of any fabric with a thin, flexible layer. Use sublimation for polyester and poly-coated items; use DTF for cotton, blends, and dark fabrics.
PNG at 300 DPI works best for crisp, detailed prints. We handle mirroring automatically—just upload your design as-is and we’ll take care of the rest.
Sublimation blanks are items pre-coated with a polyester-based coating that accepts sublimation ink. Common blanks include ceramic mugs, mouse pads, phone cases, keychains, and poly-coated tumblers. We carry a selection of sublimation blanks in our supplies section.
Yes! We use dedicated Epson sublimation printers with genuine Epson sublimation inks and paper—not converted inkjet printers. This means more accurate colors, better consistency, and longer-lasting prints compared to DIY setups using aftermarket conversions.
